Typically, Wi-Fi is not included in most apartments. This means tenants will be responsible for securing internet service when renting, in most cases. While generally not the case, you may be able to find an apartment where the cost of rent includes Wi-Fi access.

How To Set Up Wi-Fi In An Apartment

Follow these quick steps below to properly set up Wi-Fi in your apartment.

Step 1. Choose A Service Provider

Pick a local internet service provider and purchase a membership. You may be able to combine this service with cable TV, if you already have this service in place.

Make sure to check with your landlord and/or neighbors about the dominant internet provider in the area.

Step 2. Purchase A Wi-Fi Router

Your internet provider could give you a modem as part of your monthly subscription. You could also buy your own modem if it is compatible with the service.

You may also need to purchase a wireless router because this will allow you to share the modem’s internet access with the rest of the network.

Step 3. Set Up The Wi-Fi

After purchase, you’ll need to plug the modem into a cable outlet to access the internet service. An Ethernet cable will be needed to connect the wireless router to the modem. This cable allows the two devices to communicate properly.

Put the modem and router into an electrical socket so your devices have a reliable source of electricity. Now wait several minutes for the lights to turn green.

In order to connect the devices to your network, go to the device’s Wi-Fi settings and choose your network’s name.
